Calling All Experimental Moms and Dads

What is an experimental mom? An experimental mom is willing to try parenting techniques that may be out of the mainstream. She has much theory but not necessarily a lot of practice. She wants to give her children the best start in life that she can, and help them on the path to reaching the fullness of human potential. She is not, however, so attached to theories that she is unwilling to scrap them and try something different if they don’t work out like she envisioned.

This blog will chronicle the successful and not-so-successful events in the life of one mom and one baby– who is currently still in utero but will make his or her big entrance in mid May 2011. As of this writing, the nursery is coming together, all of baby’s clothes and diapers are washed and ready, the bag for the birthing center is (about to be) packed, and I am looking at my bump and asking “who are you in there?”. I have plans– so many plans– and am trying to select the best parenting and educational strategies without giving way to starry-eyed naiveté.

Those who share an interest in experimental parenting, or who have children of their own on the way or in the cradle can check back here for posts about Montessori philosophy, Doman developmental philosophy, elimination communication, nursing, babywearing, healthy mom and healthy baby strategies, and updates on my training for a marathon five months postpartum. I welcome feedback and discussion via comments to posts. I hope this blog can become a hub for open-minded parents to share, learn from one another, and find support.

  1. Congrats! What a journey you are in for. Parenting is tough, but it sounds like you’re arming yourself with a lot of ideas and approaches. You are already getting a great perspective on things. Good luck!

  2. Thanks Jeff!

  3. Welcome to the blogging world of parenting! There are some great people/support here! I wish you the best of luck and look forward to hearing about your journey! I’m really interested in hearing about this marathon 5 months postpartum!

    • Thank you, BJ! I look forward to becoming part of the parent blogging community. I am interested in seeing how the marathon goes, too. 🙂

I like this concept, it’s very easy to get caught up with sets of rules that come with theories. Always best to do your own thing, you will do well with this mindset. Good luck with the new baby, not long now.

  5. Looking forward to following your blog. It sounds like you will be doing lots of things similar to me but also some different ones (especially that marathon!). Best wishes.
